Began my rally lights build today by finding something to mount the lights on.
I went with a front plate mounted bar. $20 on the Amazon. Claims it can be installed behind your front plate, but reviews say otherwise. Worse case ontario, the front plate is no longer needed in Ohio. Is it the most robust mount? No way. But it will work. The bumper hardly ever touches the ground while rallycrossing, so I am not entirely worried about ripping the bumper/lights off if it does.
I am eyeing these Hella LEDs. Decent reviews for a decent price of $140. I would love a set of KC Hilights, but they are about 3- 4 times the price of these. The wiring will be the most tasking part, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

Rally lights everything!

YMMV, but I couldn’t keep a front plate bar on my GC8 over rougher terrain. Pretty sure my lights were way over the weight limit any way , but t here truly is nothing quite like running over $900 worth of lights at 50 mph down a gravel track. If you run one, I’d recommend putting a little more mounting reinforcement to it.

OOooohhh, that plate looks great. I need one for my W123... what do I type into Amazon to find that thing?
EDIT: Is this the one?

Woo! Wiring isn’t too bad. Try to find holes in the firewall

It’s probably the same as the one I got

Wring is quite easy on those Hellas

There are two through holes near the corners of the engine bay that feed into the a-pillar. Used that route for the power wire for the head unit I installed; no drilling needed.

I might utilize every hole provided on that piece. Maybe some loctite to keep em from vibrating off. Is it blue or red that isn’t too permanent?

Blue is temporary, you need to pray to Zeus to take off red

red is the more permanent solution. though a bit of heat defeats that.

Yeah, most LED lights are simple, it’s the getting the physical wires into the cabin and tidied up that can be the challenge.

Nice! That’s what I did too. Thanks for the random holes ford!

I’m “ deleting” the high beams on my ST202 Celica for some rally lights in their place . Might even add a few more to either the a-pillars like a D akar car, or build a front guard for them. But first, I need an engine! 7afe decided to vent a few rods through the side of the block. They made it 370k. So not complaining to hard.

Mildly f unny story about random holes:
W hen I was worki ng for an OEM, there was a time we went on a Jihad over cabin noise in one of our models. As part of that, I was part of a team going over the firewall trying to get rid of any redundant holes.
We started with (from memory) 220-odd holes, and managed to get rid of about 40 of them. Of the remaining 180-odd, there were about another 40 that nobody could identify why they were there (unlike the 40 we got rid of, where we were able to trace “that used to be used for X but we no longer do X”).
In the end we wimped out of getting rid of those ones and left them in place, beca u se the small b ene f it in reduced noise w asn’t worth the risk of finding out the hard way that a hole *was* still used for something even tho ugh there was no documented record, and having to stop the production line while thousands of part-built bodies were modified and the hole was put back in the tool. Which s ai d a lot about our level of confidence in the company’s engineering cha n ge contr ol process.
Ford’s body engineers are pro bably in the same boat...

I was very dissappinted to fin out the bull bar on my Tundra was too small for my 7” Hellas.
